When Krystle told me she wanted to do her Christmas photos in the North Carolina Museum of Art, I was ecstatic. I knew I’d be meeting someone who had a flair for funky photos and an appreciation of the (surprisingly extensive and excellent) collection housed there. I was not disappointed!
We had a blast posing with Rodin’s and playing with the quirky, gorgeous surroundings. Exactly my kind of day. And would you just look at their complimenting plaid! My Scottish heart was singing for all the tartan love!
And this is only the beginning! Krystle and I are hoping to collaborate more in the future, so this is not the last you’ll see of this sartorially savvy lady!
If the fact that Lauren wanted to do a Harry Potter-themed newborn shoot doesn’t tell you how awesome she is, I don’t know what would.
Lauren, like Phillip and J and Brock, is a cornerstone member of our back-pew brigade of mischief-makers. Cuddling with these sisters and harmonizing with their mama on Sundays are some of my favorite things!
Marley is fond of calling her newborn baby sister, Maggie, “her” baby. When she wasn’t reading words to her from well-worn pages or shaking a snow globe, she was clutching Maggie’s hand and saying “my baby, it’s okay, I’m here!” Cue: heart melting.
Since we snapped these photos right before Thanksgiving, we could include a special guest- these girls’ great-grandmother. Lauren asked me to capture her beautiful hands holding such tiny, new life. What a breathtaking expanse of life in such a small, tender moment.
Future member of the D.A. here, just learning some basic spellwork with Hermione’s wand!
I couldn’t be more smitten with these ladies if I tried!

I first met Amelia in a New Testament course at the University of Edinburgh. She matriculated there full-time, but I was only visiting for a semester. It didn’t take long for me to realize what an incredibly warm person she is – even knowing I was only there for a spell, she was sure to reach out to me and we enjoyed lovely walks around blustery, gorgeous Edinburgh.
And now, she’s studying in the states for a year! She made her way down to Durham and we couldn’t have enjoyed her company more. What a treat to have friends from far and wide! Tupelo took us all on a walk, and we met up with our pals Aaron and Maggie – fellow shutterbug (Aaron) and patient models (Maggie and my spouse!).
Last week, while snapping pics of these cuties, J told me he had spent the night prior putting up a Christmas tree. One of their usual four. He was chuckling a little as he said it, and I laughed too – it is, after all, not even Thanksgiving yet. But in all earnest, Phillip added, “It’s been such a terrible week, we needed Christmas.”
And honestly, I just could not agree more.
One of my favorite Christmas traditions in our household is the annual Christmas Card – more specifically, the photoshoot. I love cheeky, kitschy Christmas stuff. And what I love even more than cheeky Christmas stuff are cheeky cats in Christmas costumes.
Unfortunately, the only being in the house who will let me dress them up is my spouse – and even that, I fear, has an expiration date. So usually it’s us dressed and the cat half-out-of their santa hats.
See for yourself:
Now, these masterpieces are crafted with a tablecloth hung over a curtain rod, a self-timer, and an affable, if resigned, spouse.
But this year, two things are different:
One, I want to spread my love for Christmas cheesiness farther and wider, which is where you come in!
And two, we have a dog. And DOGS, it turns out, are MUCH easier to put in costumes!
Okay, okay, she enjoyed it about as much as the cats do.
SOOO the point is:
I am running a special on Christmas Card photoshoots until December 1st 2016!
For $40 (plus mileage, if necessary) you get a 45-minute photo session for you, your pets, your cute kids, your cute boo, yourself, whoever! One location, one outfit, ugly Christmas sweater contests preferred.
I will then send you, via DropBox, full-resolution digital images for your printing pleasure within 72 hours of your shoot, so everyone in your life can enjoy your beauty on their fridges this holiday season.
All you have to do is contact me before December 1st to set up the time and place!
I first met Brenna when I all but smashed into her our first few weeks of college; I went through a phase where I wore vintage green roller skates to all my classes.
Miraculously, Brenna still talked to me then, and still talks to me now some six years later! A few months after I met Brenna (thankfully having shedded the skates) we were like glue. She was, and remains, one of my best friends. I like to brag now that I was there when she and her fiancé, Colby, first laid eyes on each other, at an inter-college Christian pizza party. I knew he was a keeper when, several years later, he and I were enrolled in the same Feminist Theologies class.
Ah, true nerd love!
We had a blast taking some snaps around the more wooded parts of Durham!
